This is a part 2 of sorts to the love poem to myself. In DNRS we are encouraged to focus on how far we’ve come. I find this a much more accurate way to measure that than by how many diagnoses no longer fit or how many things I can do that I once couldn’t. It’s the inside work that matters.
See how far these feet have traveled, my love
The mountains you’ve climbed weren’t simply made of rock
But of courage
Vulnerability
Faith
Love
Humility
Trust
As you climb you’ve dropped everything that weighed you down
Everything you weren’t you threw to the abyss
Holding the pearl of your heart close
Allowing its soft shine to illuminate each small step into the darkness

You have chosen your path
The one you were given by your Father
With unshakable faith in his Love, blind surrender to his plan
Regardless of the people around you
Whether they stay or leave
Love or despise
You have put your faith in God instead of men
Then fell in love with humanity
You are a blinding light
And one so small
You feel it when you are loved by another
No more than a grain of sand you are

You have clawed back the veil
Desperate in your thirst
For the kind of Truth only love can offer
You live naked, nothing to prove or hide
You fell in love with your own beauty
The way a parent falls in love with the sweet innocence of their newborn child
Seeing all as gift
For so it is
You are for the world
For the ones you love
A sacrifice of joy is what you are
Holding your own tears sacred in quiet dark moments
When your soft, tender heart is so tired
So wanting to be loved, held, for just a bit
Cradling your own heart as bleeds
“It’s okay, love, to feel, to cry, to be human”
Then turning your eyes to the One who waits to dry them
Resting, body and soul, in His ever present, ever tender embrace
You are the Phoenix
Burning your past, your pain, your ache
In the embers of love
Arising anew every morning
To set the world on fire
